Supernatural season 4 begins four months after Dean went to Hell in the end of season 3. In the meantime, Sam is getting closer to his own death. He is stopped by demon Ruby who is trying to influence his skills. She indoctrinates Sam to cultivate his gift. Dean gets dragged out of Hell by angels and the two brothers start to fight side-by-side again. After his resurrection, Sam becomes more cold-hearted. Dean doesn’t talk about what happened to him in Hell – about how he was forced to torture other souls so that he is not tortured by demon Alastair. This is what caused Lucifer’s liberation. During the investigation of another mysterious case, Sam and Dean meet ghosts of Meg, agent Henriksen and others who blame the brothers for not being able to save them from death. But the brothers are not the only people to meet the ghosts. Bobby also meets the spirits of two girls who he couldn’t save. In order to vanquish the ghosts, the Winchesters and Bobby have to unite their forces. In her turn, Castiel tells Dean about Lilith’s evil plans.
